Edited to enter in CSI's Furniture Makover Challenge. Giveaway expired...sorry! :)
I'm finally back with a Perfectly Imperfect Restoration project! I have been working very hard for the last 2 weeks.
But this project was a little different. More persistent work on one project, than lots of little projects.
Here's the before:
That's right....a dining table and 6 chairs. The lines were so pretty, but the pecan stain was a little dated. I had done Ashley's coffee and end tables, and bless her heart, she asked me to help her pick out a dining suite and refinish it for her. Not only did the amount of work take much longer, but Ashley and her husband decided that we should restain the top. A lot of work, but I was happy to do it.
And I think it turned out great! Here it is in Ashley's dining room.
The top was stripped 3 times...I'm not sure, but I think the top had been poly'd 10 times or more....and then heavily sanded to get it down to the bare wood. I chose a dark walnut stain and to get this more solid look, stained 3 coats and poly'd 3 times for durability.
The legs and chairs were painted white and lightly glazed brown, which slightly softened the look. She hasn't found the perfect fabric yet, so we left the original upholstery....which looks great in her room. Definitely just right until she finds something that's totally her.
Having seen Ashley's dining room, I knew this table and chairs seemed like it was meant to be there. Doesn't it all look so beautiful?
So, of course, being me, there was only one thing to do. Throw some staging stuff in a basket and take way too many pictures.
Hope you don't mind. :)
I have to give a shout to my sweet husband, who helped me deliver these pieces on our way out of town for a little getaway. We were married 7 years ago today....I adore you, honey, and I pray that we are continually growing together in Spirit, in love, and in joy. Thank you for making my life splendid to live!!! I love you!

ReplyDeleteCongrats on your anniversary, and trust me, staining the top was DEFINITELY the way to go! It looks gorgeous!
ReplyDeletethis is just so fantastic. love the stained top.
ReplyDeleteI L-O-V-E my new dining room suit! It was so hideous before, but Shaunna transformed it into a beautiful set that will suit my husband and I for many years to come! This was the second time I've worked with Shaunna to refininsh furniture for us and both times it has been an absolute delight! Our home was already filled with love, but now it's filled with pretty furniture, too! Thank you again so much, Shaunna, for helping this design challenged new wife make her house a home. And happy anniversary!
ReplyDeleteLove it Shaunna, great work! Very similar to my own table I did a while back and featured on my blog. I didnt have to do all the chairs as well though!! It looks really beautiful indeed (great photos too).

I simply cannot imagine all the work that went into this set. It is so beautiful. The finish on the top turned out perfect, which isn't easy to do at all when staining and using poly. You work very meticulously, and it shows. Happy Anniversary to you and you sweet hubby, and thank you for the lovely comment and for linking your project!
ReplyDeleteThat is beautiful! So much better than it was and the dark top on the white looks gorgeous! Theresa
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous set. It looks divine in your dining room. Congratulations! I love it...
ReplyDeletebeautiful!
ReplyDeletehappy anniversary!

The table is beautiful! I have a squarer version of that same table waiting refinishing in the garage. I hadn't thought of stain for the top. However, I am thinking it needs the white paint as it has those little shell designs on the legs. And maybe blue and white stripes for the seats. Thanks for inspiring.
ReplyDeleteWow, that is beautiful. That finish on that stained top is amazing.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic job you did! It looks incredible!!
ReplyDeleteThat table turned out absolutely gorgeous! I had a table almost just like it but painted it black. I like what you did much better!
ReplyDeleteYou have a beautiful blog. I found you through Shabby Chic.

I'm so jealous! I've been contemplating on painting my dinning table. I think my husband would scream!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! This is almost exactly like the vintage Drexel Heritage table that I have waiting for me to refinish.
ReplyDeleteOooh my, This turned out gorgeous! I love the contrast with the stained top.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!!! I love the white color you used. Amazing!

OH MY that's gorgeous! It sure looks like a lot of work but definitely worth it because it's incredible! So glad I saw this on remodelaholics!
ReplyDeleteYou did an incredible job on this dining set! I have this exact set and have been looking for inspiration on how to update it. Didn't think I'd find it, but encouraged after I stumbled across yours through Shabby Chic Cottage's linky party. Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI have almost the exact dining set and this is exactly what I'm doing with it! I've already done the table and I'm waiting for the time to come up when I can do the chairs. It looks wonderful!
ReplyDeleteJust beautiful!
ReplyDeleteYou have a great selection of painted furniture and lots of ideas. I am a new follower and I can't wait to see what you do next.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! Love the dark stained top with the white body!! Have a table just like this style... I use it as my construction table... maybe transforming it soon!
ReplyDeleteI love the contrast of the top and the rest of the piece. You did a wonderful job!
ReplyDeleteI just recently found a table very similar to this but without the design accents on the legs. I found this post on your blog and decided it was so beautiful I had to replicate it. OMG it was a LOT of work! My table also had like 100 (okay 10) coats of poly on it. It was a job getting it back to the bare wood. Then the stain didn't want to take evenly so we sanded between coats of stain and poly, ugh! It's gorgeous now that it's finished and it took me two weeks to complete as well. Thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteLovely! The color of the tabletop is so gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteGreat job... the set is really beautiful. Your staging is nice, too. I am most certainly going to be checking out your blog. Coming over from the CSI Project.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! Fantastic job!
ReplyDeletebeautiful job! Are those pretty dressers in the garage waiting for their turn?
ReplyDeleteSet looks awesome!

Beautiful! Take as many pics as you'd like...well deserved for all that work!;)
ReplyDelete~sigh!~ If only I had seen this a couple of years ago. I had almost the same set except with ladder back chairs- would have kept it if it had looked like this! :( (Also got rid of china cabinet with similar style- what was I thinking???)
