A Vanity for Lillian

Lillian, my niece, that is.

Matt's sister, Lara and her two girls came down to visit last Thursday, and among other things, Lara and I got the bug to makeover some furniture.

We found it at E.C. Oswald's place, which Lara told me that pictures and words could did acurrately describe the craziness of his place or his surly-ness. :)

I did get him down to $35 on it, which is more than I wanted to pay, but he had bronchitis and I was feeling a bit soft....

Still a great piece at a great price for this beautiful girl.  I see lots of pink lip gloss and spelling words in its future.

Lara did the painting (which I would have totally done for her--but she is DIY'er at heart and was excited to tackle a weekend project for her little girl--and I was happy to help!++++++).  I then distressed it and took it up to the writing room for some after shots.

I think we (mostly she) did a wonderful job!!

She used the spray cans of Kilz primer, and did two coats of Rustoleum Satin Brilliant White, sanding and allowing plenty of dry time in between each coat.  I'm not a huge fan of spray paint, but it really has a lovely finish.  She did SUCH a beautiful job!

We both wanted very subtle distressing, sweet touches that would bring out the lines of the piece.

I think there is a plan for a fleur di lis pull to replace the original, and some new fabric is in order for the stool....there's also talk of a little applique.

I had to throw this last picture in so you could see how my brain works most of the time.  Legs in mirror....who notices that?  Take the picture.  Load it to blogger.  Almost finish post.  Notice legs in mirror.

Sassy.

Especially in my basketball shorts.

  6. It's sweet. My grandmother painted two of these for my sister and I when we were little girls. Mine was yellow and my sister's was pink. She added gingham skirts (it was the 70's). I remember loving mine so much because she made it for me. I hope Lillian loves hers as much as I did. Lisa~

  12. Sooo cute. I love the shape of that dresser though it looked so old fashioned in that dull brown finish. The white has just brought it to life again.
    Lovin' those legs!

  20. Hi, I just found your blog through Finding Fabulous! I love your blog and I am now happily following! I love the picture with your legs in the mirror :) It's so funny when you think about all of the things that go on "behind the scenes" that never make it to the blog (thankfully!).

  21. Very nice! I had to do a double take at that first photo because the reflection of your arm in the mirror looks a bit like your husbands bare stomach, if there was no mirror in the frame, lol (sorry!)

  22. hi Shaunna-

I think you made your niece very happy. I love the picture of her sitting at the vanity in its before state. So cute. What a great shot to show her when she is all grown up.

Thanks for leaving me the nice comment about the chest of drawers and desk I re-did for my daughter. I would love if you featured it on your Sat shoutouts - Thanks do much.

I hope you enjoy your weekend.
